Tyro Trials

These are a set of trials designed for the newer car and are a gentle introduction to trialing. Juniors are also allowed to compete at this level from the age of 13. They are set up to be completely non-damaging (unless driven extremely recklessly) and are a good way to get experience and knowledge of driving off-road.

These usually take place on a Saturday whilst most other events/trials take place on a Sunday. New Land Rovers, Discoveries, Range Rovers and Freelanders can take part and not need to worry about damage to their vehicle.

Reading the terrain ahead of you is a skill that takes a while to develop. You gain skill in reading the off road terrain and handling your vehicle off road quicker in club events than green laning or off road schools.

There are usually 12 sets of canes (gates) with a clear score obtained by completing the section without stopping or hitting a cane. A score of 12 arises if a mistake occurs right at the start and this happens to even the most experienced of drivers, so do not be disillusioned. This is not a speed or timed event; indeed often it is helpful to drive slowly.

Vehicles are driven in classes to give fair competition (Long wheel based, short wheel based etc) and Trophies are awarded.
